Alerting Services

Capilano University Library provides email alerting services that allow faculty to be notified by email when new books or articles are received on specific topics of their choice. Use the instructions below to sign up for these services.
New Books in the Library Collection
- From the Library's home page, select My Library from the Self Serve list of options.
- Click on "View Your Library Record".
- Login with your last name and your Banner ID.
- Click on the Search Catalogue icon.
- Design a search that covers the topic for which you want to receive notification. Author, Subject or Keyword searches work best.
- On the results screen of your chosen search, click on Save as preferred search which is a long grey button to the right beneath the coloured icons.
- Once you have saved all the Preferred searches that you want, click on the Patron Record icon along the top of the screen.
- Click on the Preferred Searches icon. The Preferred Searches that you saved will be listed under the type of search.
- To activate email alerting, click the Mark for email box next to the search, and then click on the Update List icon to activate.
- To delete a search, click on the Mark for remove box next to the title, and then click on the Update List icon to activate.
Email Alerts for Journal articles and Table of Contents
Use any of the Capilano University EBSCO databases to receive alerts for new articles on a specific topic or to receive the Table of Contents for recently published journals. Many will include links to the full text but not all.

Instructions: Alert for New Articles on a Specific Topic
You can choose to be notified by email when articles on a specific topic are added to a database. If the article is full text, this notification will include a link to the actual article. Here's how:
- From any Ebsco database (listed above with links), click on HELP in the upper right corner of the screen.
- In the new window, there is a list of contents in the left frame. Under "Saving Searches & Alerts", first learn how to save a search under "Saving a Search".
- Once you have saved a search, go again to the HELP page, find "Saving Searches & Alerts" on the left hand side, click on "Saving a Search as an Alert" and follow the instructions.
Instructions: Recent Table of Contents for a Specific Journal
You can request that the most recent table of contents for specific journal titles be emailed to you as soon as they are published. Follow the Ebsco instructions.
- From any Ebsco database (listed above with links), click on HELP in the upper right corner of the screen.
- In the new window, there is a list of contents in the left frame. Under "Saving Searches & Alerts", first learn how to save a search under "Saving a Search".
- Once you have saved a search, go again to the HELP page, find "Saving Searches & Alerts" on the left hand side, click on "Setting up a Journal Alert" and follow the instructions.
