Services Offered by Learning Skills Services
Learning Skills Services provide a number of different services on campus, including:
- Lunch Hour Study Skills Workshops
- Course Specific Study Skills Workshops
- Student Success Courses (3 credits)
- Individual Learning Skills Assistance

Lunch Hour Study Skills Workshops
Every Fall and Spring semester, Learning Skills Services offer a variety of study skills workshops. These workshops are free of charge and cover topics such as:
- Time Management
- Lecture Notetaking
- Textbook Reading
- Exam Preparation/Exam Writing, and
- Giving Oral Presentations.

Course Specific Study Skills Workshops
Course Specific Study Skills Workshops
At the invitiation of course instructors, the Learning Skills Specialist presents in-class workshops on a variety of study skills topics. In these cases, every effort is made to use the students course work and assignments to increase their understanding of the study skills taught. To invite the Learning Skills Specialist to teach an in-class study skills workshop, please send an email to Alison Parry.
Student Success Courses (3 credits)
Student Success Courses (3 credits)
The Learning Skills Specialist, along with one of the Counsellors, teaches the University Student Success course USS 100 - Academic and Personal Skills for Success every Fall and Spring Semester. This course is designed to help students develop both the study skills and personal skills they need to be successful at the post secondary level. Individual Learning Skills Assistance
Individual Learning Skills Assistance
The Learning Skills Specialist is available to meet with students on an individual basis to discuss their academic concerns and difficulties and to provide individual study skills instruction. To make an appointment call the Counselling Department during regular office hours at 604-984-1744 or drop by Counselling & Learning Support in Birch 267 to make an appointment in person.
Assistance to Students with Disabilities
The Learning Skills Specialist is available to help students with disabilities identify and develop strategies for overcoming any learning difficulties they might be experiencing as a result of their disability. To make an appointment call Counselling & Learning Support during regular office hours at 604-984-1744. Study Skills Handouts & Online Resources
Study skills handouts can be obtained either online or from Counselling & Learning Support office located in Birch 267. Topics include: Time Management; Lecture Notetaking, Textbook Reading, Exam Preparation, Exam Writing, Giving an Oral Presentation, Creating Visual Study Tools, and Concentration.
