Frequently Asked Questions
The CLC (located in the Library) is a drop-in computer lab for all enrolled students at Capilano College. These are some frequently asked questions:
Can I book time on a computer?
You may book time on a computer in the reservation binder on the Helpdesk in the computer lab. You may reserve a computer for up to TWO hours per day.
What happens if someone has booked a computer and doesn't show up?
Students more than 15 minutes late forfeit their booked time.
What happens if there is someone on a computer but they haven't booked it?
Students may enter a new booking but must allow the student 15 minutes to finish their work before the new booking takes effect.
How far in advance can I book?
Reservations for each computer may be made up to two weeks in advance. This is especially useful for students during mid term and finals.
Can I get help?
Yes, the lab instructor at the Helpdesk provides computer assistance. The hours of assistance are posted on the wall behind the Helpdesk. At other times the CLC is self-help lab.
Can I email and use the internet?
Yes you can do both, but note that email and non-course related internet access is limited to fifteen minutes during busy periods.
Are there any other restrictions in the lab?
NO food or drink is permitted in the CLC. Cell phones and pagers are discouraged.
Students are encouraged to become familiar with the Student Conduct Policy and the Misuse of Computer System Policy.
Can I print in the lab?
Yes, all the labs computers are connected to a laser printer. Instructions on how to print are posted beside the printer. The cost of printing is 10 cents per page.
Are there other places on campus I can get access to a computer?
Drop in computer labs are available on the second floors of the Cedar and Fir buildings. Class schedules are posted outside the door. Drop-in is permitted at the discretion of the instructor. The door combination to these labs is available from your department or the CLC lab instructor. Be prepared to provide student identification.
