WORD Testing Criteria

Criteria Guidelines for Microsoft WORD 2007

The following is a guideline to inform candidates of the type of tasks that may be asked in each level of WORD testing. (All tasks may not be listed) Candidates are advised to review all functions of the software in order to perform tasks efficiently within the allotted time limit. Your personal reference material is allowed for all levels.

Working Level of Knowledge: (30 minutes)

  • Open Word software and create a new document
  • Open, edit, save, print document
  • Apply formatting features such as bold, text alignment
  • Cut and paste
  • Change font features such as style and size
  • Insert auto text, date or page numbering
  • Select and replace text
  • Set and delete margin setting
  • Apply spelling and grammar check
  • Spell check a document
  • Track changes

Considerable Level of Knowledge: (45 minutes, includes all functions listed in the Working level plus the following:)

  • Insert and format tables
  • Convert text to tables
  • Saving a document in an earlier version
  • Edit objects
  • Insert and format a chart
  • Set line spacing
  • Apply index entry
  • Create macros
  • Insert bookmark
  • Insert breaks
  • Insert table of contents
  • Create Merge documents
  • Apply Mail Merge features

Thorough Level of Knowledge:(60 minutes, includes all functions listed in the Working and Considerable levels plus the following:)

  • Paste as hyperlink
  • Apply Group objects
  • Apply Autoformatting
  • Use formulas
  • Use Master documents
  • Internet address
  • Apply document protection
  • Change a multi-level list
  • Insert comments
  • Insert equations

All test scores are valid and will be kept on file for two years.
