Career Opportunities

British Columbia is experiencing a skills shortage in tourism related occupations.  Successfully securing a professional career in the Tourism Industry requires a blend of work experience and formal education.  The Tourism Management Co-op diploma program offers both.  As a result, graduates are able to pursue a range of different tourism related careers.  Based on your career interests and previous work experience, you may find opportunities to work in event planning, in a hotel, for a tour company, a destination marketing organization, as a consultant in tourism policy and planning, or as a guide in adventure tourism.

Recent graduates have gained jobs as:

  • Sales manager, for a destination marketing organization
  • Managing director, inbound tour company
  • Airline attendant, major international carrier
  • Frontline staff, cruise ship
  • Manager, sales and marketing, receptive tour company
  • Manager, food & beverage at a International 5 Star Hotel
  • Manager, sales and operations, for a tour operator
  • Human resource supervisor, ski resort
  • Program coordinator, for a special events company
  • Tourism information officer, for a chamber of commerce

As an option, some students carry on with the Bachelor of Tourism Management degree part-time at Capilano University, provided that admission requirements are met.
