About the Tourism Management Co-op Diploma Program
Capilano University's accelerated Tourism Management Co-op program is on the leading edge of tourism education in B.C. Our mission is to train students in the management skills necessary for the successful operation of travel generators, including resorts, adventure tourism companies, attractions, conferences and special events. Marketing, research and entrepreneurial skills in tourism are emphasized.
Intensive technical skills courses, contact with the industry and a four-and-a-half month supervised co-op work term encourage a professional attitude toward the industry. The program's practical business approach, combined with creative teaching, promises a rewarding educational investment for students.
The program will appeal to dynamic, outgoing individuals with previous post-secondary education and successful work experience in tourism or a related field. The program is also designed for people considering a career shift. The accelerated co-op model is cost-effective and requires minimal time out of the workforce.
Capilano University's Tourism Management Co-op program offers top quality instruction, a beautiful campus and an exciting learning environment.
Why join the Tourism Management Co-op Diploma Program?
History
Location
Vancouver is often recognized as one of the best cities in the world. Being at Capilano University provides you the opportunity of being close to the city’s action, while being nestled in the forest of the North Shore Mountains. From a tourism industry perspective, Vancouver and Whistler represent a significant part of the B.C. tourism industry, with world class hotels and adventure activities, such as skiing, whale watching, mountain biking and kayaking. Events and conferences are also close at hand, with the new Vancouver Convention Centre opening in 2008. And of course, the Winter Olympics in 2010 will be happening all around us!
Timing
This is an accelerated 16-month program (for students who are enrolled full-time), including a 4-month paid co-op. Applications are accepted year round with start dates of either September or January.
Reputation and Recognition
Capilano University is home to the LinkBC Network, established in 2004. With well over 400 students in the Department, we have gained considerable expertise and recognition in the community and internationally. We continue to develop closer ties to industry, with employers regularly contacting the Department looking for prospective staff.

Diploma students have the opportunity to take electives in areas of particular interest. As well, students have the opportunity to participate in international exchange programs, gain solid work experience, as well as learn from faculty who have a wide background of academic credentials and industry experience.
