Do I have to be able to speak a foreign language to take part in Study Abroad?

No. The short-term programs do not require a language other than English. Some programs such as the business studies options in France do not require French but competency in it will expand your options for study. Most of the longer-term options offer a language study component.

Can I work while I am in another country?

In some countries such as Australia, opportunities for part-time work exist. Check with the Study Abroad Office and the education section of the local consulate for more details.

Where will I live?

Most programs have the option of a home stay placement with a local family or on-campus dormitory accommodation. In some cases, private off-campus rental accommodation is available.

Am I eligible for financial assistance?

For some of the longer-term exchange programs, where you will be enrolled in full-time studies, financial assistance should be available. Check with the Study Abroad Office and Financial Aid Office for more information.

Do I have to be a Capilano University student to register in the programs?

No, for the short-term programs you can choose not to take the courses for credit. You still participate but get a certificate of completion instead of course credit.

top

Do I have to take the courses for credit?

No. In some programs, such as the short-term programs to Japan and China, we have made these courses available to everyone, including members of the community who are interested in taking the tour for interest. Other programs, such as the semester or full-year European options, must be taken for credit. Therefore, if you are not currently a Capilano University student, you must gain admission to the University.

Do I have to be a Business Administration student?

Some programs are only open to Business Administration students, such as the exchange program with INSEEC in France. Check with the Study Abroad Office for more information.
