Critical Thinking: A course for Grade 11s

Earn three university credits in just two weeks this summer

Get a jump on your university education this summer. Capilano University is offering a unique opportunity for Grade 11 students to take a three-credit, university-level philosophy course in August 2012. This condensed two-week course will be offered at our North Vancouver campus.

Taught by Dr. Sue Gardner, using her recently published critical thinking text, this course (Philosophy 110) will attempt to explore some of the most pressing key issues that are faced by the youth of today.

Through a clear step-by-step method of practical reasoning, you will learn how to think impartially and neutralize invisible biases that limit your freedom of thought and action. With the help of comic strip characters, Diva and Ben, you will learn how to evaluate arguments and recognize fallacies, all the while avoiding the paralyzing effects of relativism. This fascinating course will show you how to think for yourself and become your own person. You’ll also learn to write well.

Why take the course?

  • Experience what it’s like to be a university student in a relaxed atmosphere over the summer
  • Earn three university transferable credits that will enable you to decrease your course load once you’re at university
  • Learn how to think critically and enhance your ability to excel in school and exams
  • Develop strong writing skills that will greatly improve your essay writing
  • Enrolment is limited to 28 students, giving you lots of one-on-one time with your instructor
