John Fairlie,
B.Mus., LL.B., LL.M. (UBC)
John has a Bachelor of Music degree (B.Mus.), receiving the top student award on graduation, and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.), both from the University of British Columbia. After being called to the bar in British Columbia, he worked as a legal writer with Carswell Legal Publications. He has taught at Simon Fraser University and the British Columbia Institute of Technology, as well as Capilano.
John has authored a well-received textbook on legal research, "How to Find Canadian Law" and in 2003 obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia during a year's educational leave from Capilano. John has been Chair of the Department of Legal Studies at Capilano University since 2007.

Leslie Baker,
B.A. (UBC), T.Cert. (SFU), LL.B. (UBC)
Leslie Baker received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of British Columbia in 1968, her Teaching Certificate from Simon Fraser University in 1970, and graduated from UBC Law School in 1978. She articled with H.A.D. Oliver in Vancouver, and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1979.
Leslie has practised law with the Legal Services Society of B.C., the Law Society of British Columbia, and in 1990 was appointed Legal Officer to the Chief Judge of the Province. She began teaching in the Paralegal Program at Capilano in 1980, and has taught full or part time since then. Leslie also taught 'Women and the Law' at SFU and has written a number of publications, including a book on employment law and several manuals on family law, youth law, and women and the law.
Robert Diab,
B.A., M.A. (Western Ontario), LL.B., LL.M. (UBC)
Robert received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, and graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2001 and a Master of Laws in 2007. He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2002 and has practiced in a range of areas, including commercial law and civil, criminal and administrative litigation, at all levels of court in British Columbia.
Robert has taught legal research and writing at the Faculty of Law at UBC, and has been an instructor at Capilano since 2006. As a volunteer with UBC's Law Students' Legal Assistance Program, Robert received an 'Outstanding Supervising Lawyer' award in 2003.
Robert is also the author of 'Guantanamo North: Terrorism and the Administration of Justice in Canada' (Fernwood Publishing, 2008). Fernwood Publishing
William Enwright,
B.F.A., M.F.A. (UBC), LL.B. (McGill)
William received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1976 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1979 from the University of British Columbia. In 1983 he obtained his LL.B. from McGill University and then attended the University of Saskatchewan as a University Scholar.
William articled with DeBou, Wood and Company and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1986. Since that time he has worked in Alberta and British Columbia in aboriginal law, administrative law and criminal law. In 1992, he was appointed to the British Columbia Review Board, where he worked as Registrar and Counsel.
Since 1997 William has worked extensively on the development of Paralegal Distance Education courses for the University. He also gives seminars to lawyers and adjudicators on legal writing, business law and aboriginal law. In Fall 2009, William was a Visiting Professor at Kushiro Public University in Kushiro, Japan. For Fall 2010, William is again serving as a Visiting Professor with Kushiro Public University of Economics in Kushiro, Japan.
Debbie Jamison,
B.A. (UBC), LGAS Diploma (Capilano)
Debbie received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia in 1990 and her Paralegal Diploma from Capilano in 1993. Debbie has worked as a paralegal since then in the areas of personal injury and insurance litigation and is currently a paralegal at the New Westminster firm of Cassady & Company.
Debbie teaches Basic and Advanced Litigation Procedures and Law Office Procedures in the Paralegal Program at Capilano and provides an up-to-date practical focus and experience on the role of paralegals in law firms. Debbie is also a member of the B.C. Paralegal Association.
Debbie is currently Convenor of the Department of Legal Studies at Capilano.
Jason Leslie,
B.A.(Hon.) (SFU), J.D. (Columbia) 
Jason received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Mathematics from Simon Fraser Uuniversity in 1994 and a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1997. After completing a clerkship with the B.C. Court of Appeal in 1999, Jason articled with the Department of Justice, where he spent five years after his call to the Bar of British Columbia in 2001.
Jason has also worked as a Law-Line lawyer at the Legal Services Society of B.C., as a corporate tax solicitor in Vancouver, and as a policy analyst at Worksafe BC. Jason has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, in Federal Court, Tax Court, and Bankruptcy Court, and has extensive experience with insolvency, tax, aboriginal, administrative, social justice/poverty, and corporate/commercial law.
Jason is a new regular instructor in the Department of Legal Studies and is also an adjunct professor at UBC Law School, where he has taught Insolvency Law. To complement his teaching and practice skills, Jason is working towards a Certificate in Conflict Resolution at the Justice Institute of B.C.
Paris Simons
B.A. (UBC), LL.B. (UBC)
Paris Simons received a BA in English literature (1995) and an LLB (1998), both from UBC. He was called to the bar in BC in 1999 (and briefly to the Bar of the Yukon in 2001 while working for the Department of Justice). He has represented clients in personal injury and employment law claims, as well as doing co-counsel and contract work with other lawyers. A member of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC since 2001, he served 6 years on the executive, and for various years on the Seminar Planning, Civil Court Rules Action and Small Claims Committees. Paris is also a member of the American Association for Justice (formerly ATLA).
Paris has sought out training in alternative dispute resolution through courses at the Justice Institute of BC and CLE.
Before becoming a lawyer, Paris worked in cultural management and marketing for arts organizations. He now volunteers with several non-profit societies' boards of directors. Paris is also a bicycle commuter.
Laura Startup,
B. Com. (UBC), J.D. (UVic), LL.M. (Cambridge)
Laura received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia in 1982, her law degree (J.D.) from the University of Victoria in 1983 and her LL.M. from the University of Cambridge in 1986. She was called to the bar of British Columbia in 1984.
Laura was previously an adjunct professor and part-time lecturer with the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law where she taught corporate law and advanced corporate law courses. Prior to that she was Senior Legal Counsel with the British Columbia Securities Commission. She also acted as an officer, counsel and a director of the investment firm Peter Cundill & Associates Ltd., and was an associate with the Vancouver law firm of Freeman and Company.
Since joining Capilano in January, 2005, Laura has taught corporate law and corporate procedures in both the Paralegal Program and Legal Administrative Assistant Program. She has also taught Legal Drafting and Wills and Estates.
Lindy Tucker,
B.H.K. (UBC), LGAS Diploma (Capilano)
Lindy received a Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree from the University of British Columbia in 2000 and her Paralegal Diploma from Capilano in 2003. Lindy worked as a paralegal at the Vancouver firm of Lindsay Kenney LLP from 2003 - 2011 in areas of general litigation, insurance litigation and fraud litigation.
Lindy teaches Basic Litigation Procedures and Legal Document Formatting in the Paralegal Program at Capilano. Lindy provides experience regarding the role of paralegals in law firms and how their knowledge can best be put to use. Lindy is a member of the B.C. Paralegal Association.
Moira Wong,
B.A. (UBC), LL.B. (Western Ontario) 
Moira received a Bachelor of Arts degree (International Relations) from the University of British Columbia in 1991, and her LL.B. Degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1995. She was called to the bar of British Columbia in 1996.
Moira practiced law at the Vancouver firm of Alexander, Holburn, Beaudin & Lang for approximately 10 years, representing clients in civil claims involving personal injury, occupier's liability, contracts, products liability and educational malpractice. She has broad experience in a variety of sports-related legal matters, and has assisted in developing risk management programs for various commercial sports and recreational operators. She has appeared on behalf of clients in mediations, settlement conferences, and at all levels of court in British Columbia. In addition, she has spoken at national and local conferences, meetings and workshops on risk management in sports.
Moira joined the Department of Legal Studies as an instructor in 2008, and teaches both substantive and procedural law courses for the Department's diploma, certificate and online programs.
Karen Yip,
B.A., LL.B. (UBC)
Karen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia in 1988 and her LL.B. degree in 1991. She articled with Freeman and Company and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1992. Karen practiced corporate commercial and real estate law with Davis and Company. She has extensive business and legal experience in offshore investment, joint venture and development dealings. Karen worked in the area of legal news and current affairs, her own news segment “Legally Hip with Karen Yip” for Global TV, and has been a contributing columnist for the Vancouver Sun.
Karen is a full-time instructor in both the Department of Legal Studies and the University's Legal Administrative Assistant Program. She is Convenor of the Department's Certificate (Online) option. Karen has also taught in the University's Asia Pacific and Latin America Management Co-op Programs and currently teaches risk management for the Tourism and Outdoor Recreational Programs.

Lindy J. Bremner, 
B.Sc., LL.B. (UBC)
Lindy Bremner is an associate in the Securities and Mergers & Acquisitions Law Group of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. Lindy's practice is primarily focused in the areas of public and private financing (both debt and equity), public company reporting and compliance, and mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Bremner holds a B.Sc. degree (aviation operations) from San Jose State University and an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia.
Ms. Bremner was appointed as non-regular instructor in the Department of Legal Studies at Capilano University in 2005.
Joe Carangi
Joe received his LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 2003 and is currently a legal consultant at Watson Goepel Maledy dealing with various areas of law. Joe also acquired a teaching degree from Lakehead University, which has served him well both as a lawyer and as an instructor at Capilano University. Joe looks forward to continuing his educational career at Capilano University, where he has been privileged to meet many bright and talented individuals.
Monika Follett,
B.A. (Toronto), LL.B. (Calgary)
Monika received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto in 1986 and her LL.B. degree from the University of Calgary in 1992. She was called to the bar of Alberta in 1993 and to the bar of British Columbia in 1995.
Monika has experience in public law practice as well as private practice, in small and medium firms. She has a broad range of experience including administrative law, civil litigation, family and criminal law. Monika now has her own practice, with a focus on family law, mediation and collaborative law. Since 2007, Monika has taught part-time in the Department's Certificate and Diploma options.
Nigel Kent,
B.A. (Mem), LL.B. (Dalhousie) 
Nigel received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Memorial University in 1977 and his LL.B. degree from Dalhousie University in 1980. He practiced law in Alberta for 11 years before becoming a partner with Clark Wilson LLP in Vancouver in 1991. Nigel is Chair of Clark Wilson's Insurance Litigation practice group and is also a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
With almost 30 years experience in insurance and business litigation matters, Nigel has handled complex and difficult cases at trial and appellate courts in both Alberta and British Columbia. He is a successful negotiator and has brokered settlements of many complicated multi-party disputes. He has arbitrated and litigated a wide variety of insurance coverage and contribution claims.
Nigel is an elected member of the International Association of Defence Counsel (IADC) and, based on peer selection, is listed as leading insurance counsel in both the "Best Lawyers in Canada" and "L'Expert" directories. Nigel teaches Insurance Law.
Simon Kent,
B.A. (Carleton), LL.B. (Sask) 
Simon received a B.A. (Honours) from Carleton University in 1993 and an LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996. Simon also has a Diploma of Financial Management from B.C.I.T.
A lawyer since 1997, Simon started what is now Kent Employment Law in 2001. His legal background includes work in the area of securities law, both as a litigator and as a policymaker. He has appeared as counsel at all levels of court in British Columbia and has also sought leave to appear before the Supreme Court of Canada. Simon currently provides advice to both employees and employers on employment law issues. In addition, he works on employment-related cases such as shareholder disputes..
Simon is the Past President of the Employment Law subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (BC branch) and has been a presenter for the last five years at the Continuing Legal Education Employment Law Conference held in Vancouver. Simon is involved with the Western Canada Society to Access Justice, which provides free legal clinics to help those people who could not otherwise access legal advice. Simon also sits as a member of the BC Cancer Agency Research Ethics Board.
Edward Macaulay,
B.A. (UVic), LL.B. (Queen's, Belfast), LL.B. (UVic)
Edward received his B.A. (double major) in history and political science from the University of Victoria in 1981. He then received his LL.B. from The Queen's University Belfast N.I. in 1988 and his LL.B. from University of Victoria in 1990. He articled at the firm of Macaulay McColl and was called to the bar of BC in 1991. Edward has a practice which deals solely in the area of Wills, Estate and Trust Litigation as well as Adult Guardianship issues. He has been a sole practitioner since 2000.
Edward is a part-time instructor with Capilano University in both the certificate and diploma options. He is currently teaching the Wills and Estates practice and procedure course.

Todd Follett,
B.A. (Queen's), LL.B. (Queen's)
Todd received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973, and his LL.B. in 1977, both from Queen's University. He has extensive experience as regulatory counsel in administrative law, and as a criminal prosecutor. He is currently a commercial crime prosecutor for the Province of BC.
Todd has worked with several instructors in various online courses since 2006.
Angeline Han,
B.A.(Hon.) (UBC), LL.B. (UVic)
Angeline received her J.D. from the University of Victoria and was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2004. She represented plaintiffs in a personal injury law practice in Victoria, BC. She now works as a Sr. Training & Litigation Solutions Specialist with LexisNexis Canada pursuing her strengths and interests in legal research and legal technology.
She also holds a BA (Hons) from UBC and a BC Provincial Instructor Diploma from VCC.
Angeline has worked with several instructors in various online courses since 2008.
Etienne van Eck,
B. Iuris, LL.B. (South Africa)
Etienne received his B. Iuris and LL.B. degrees from the University of South Africa in 1995 and 1999 respectively, and completed Capilano University's Paralegal Diploma in 2002. Prior to moving to Canada, Etienne was a member of the South African Police Service for more than 14 years, including co-commanding the protection team of President Nelson Mandela. Since 2002, Etienne has been employed in various positions at the Law Society of British Columbia, and is currently an investigator in the Credentials Department.
Etienne has been an online instructor in the Paralegal Program since 2002.
Michelle Wingert,
B.A. (Sask), LL.B. (UVic) 
Michelle received a Bachelor of Arts (psychology) degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995, and a law degree from the University of Victoria in 2000.
Since her call to the British Columbia Bar (2001), Michelle has practised in the area of civil litigation. She has represented clients before all levels of court in British Columbia as well as at mediation and settlement conferences. Her litigation practice has covered a wide variety of matters including personal injury, insurance defence, strata property and construction law.
In addition to practising law, Michelle was a lecturer in civil litigation at Kwantlen University's legal administrative studies program.
