Faculty Bios
Darren Butler

Darren’s leadership, positive attitude and professionalism provide an energetic and passionate drive for Endless Biking. Darren’s varied skill-set is captured in international media coverage, through various TV shows, MTB videos and magazines as well as many community events. A creative, diverse, fit and technical rider, DB can ride it all at a very high level; XC, DH, Freeride, Dual Slalom, Enduro, Road…. you get the idea!
Darren excels at teaching, with over 10 years experience as a professional Instructor and Guide, as well as being an Instructor at Capilano University. This gives riders the opportunity to learn from his experience, versatility, professionalism and passion to ride the bike well.
Darren’s commitment to community is strong, involved in countless community projects and initiatives throughout BC. His diverse riding background includes competing in the BC Bike Race (3 years), the world’s first freeride events: the Red Bull Rampage and Red Bull Freezride, featured rider on Drop In TV, pro racing ( DH, 4X, XC), factory team manager, and event organizer and MC for various events.
Darren’s a tough customer too, overcoming a near career ending injury, shattering both heels while filming for a TV show in 2002. After spending the better part of a year in a wheelchair, Darren has bounced back stronger with fortitude and intent that has been an inspiration to those around him.
Caroline Depatie
Caroline’s portfolio in post secondary education includes teaching at Capilano University in the Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Department, University of British Columbia in the School of Human Kinetics and College of the Rockies in the Adventure Tourism and Business Operations Program. Caroline also has experience in outdoor recreation management working in the mountain resort and ocean kayaking industries. She developed the Mountain Bike Operations program at Capilano University with the help of many industry experts in 2006 and is proud to have the opportunity to work with top level professionals involved in the program. She teaches the Introduction to Tourism (TOUR 111) and Event Management (TOUR 118) courses.
Peter J. Holden, B.A., M.B.A., L.LB.
Peter has been an instructor at Capilano University for 20 years, teaching the Business Law courses, International Trade Law course, the Introductory Management and Risk Management courses in the School of Business and Tourism/Outdoor Recreation Departments at Capilano University. Peter has taught at the University of British Columbia and at the Open University in HoChiMinh City, Vietnam. He is also a legal practitioner working in the areas of corporate/commercial law, trade mark law and international trade law after his call to the B.C. Bar in 1983.
Peter also finds the time to help his wife, Kathleen, run the Secret Beach B&B on the Sunshine Coast, where they live with their daughters, Bridget and Alexandra.
Jay Hoots

Jay is active in the community, sitting on multiple Advisory Committees, as well as a contributing member and supporter of the NSMBA and IMBA. Jay is a CMIC certified MTB coach and professional Freerider (8 years Norco Factory Team).
With experience building over 24 community ‘skills parks’ and several high profile Freeride contests, Jay has incredible insight on design and build process for ‘skills parks’ and how to focus on safety, progression and creativity. Expertise in risk management strategy and a committed staff of expert consultants from every aspect of riding combine for a complete rider experience. Hoots has written DIRT jump guidelines for the Sprockids manual endorsed by CCA and has contributed to several IMBA resource manuals.
Hoots services are compliant with Whistler, IMBA and it's own proprietary design/build standards which meet international insurable protocol. Jay Hoots chaired the Skills Park workshop for ‘The World Mountain Bike Conference’ held in North Vancouver 2005-2007 and has dialogue world wide with countries dealing with the DIRT jump/freeride phenomenon. Jay teaches our TOUR 170 and TOUR 172 courses (Park/Trail Design and Building I and II)."
Andre- Jean Maheu
Andre-Jean Maheu is a Primary Care Paramedic, a professional ski patroller, avalanche forecaster and a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician. Along with his work as an instructor for Capilano University he is training professional ski patrollers in areas such as first aid, avalanche rescue, critical decision making and leadership. He also works as a medical attendant on remote worksites in the arctic. Over the years Andre-Jean has gained extensive experience in rock and ice climbing, backcountry skiing, mountaineering, and whitewater paddling. He has travelled by bicycle through many wilderness areas such as Patagonia, East Africa and deserts in the Middle East as well as trekked, climbed and skied in the Andes, the Himalayas and the Rockies. Andre-Jean is a senior instructor for Sirius Wilderness Medicine, a basic life support instructor with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and has been working in the outdoor industry as an instructor and guide since 1990.
Robyn Monk
Robyn Monk has been an instructor for Sirius Wilderness Medicine and the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation since 2003 and for Capilano University since 2007. She has 20 years of teaching experience in various fields including many years in the outdoor industry. Robyn worked for 12 years as a sea kayak guide and instructor, and has trained under some of the top instructors and pioneers of the sea kayak industry of B.C. She has worked for many companies in Canada and the U.S. as well as 8 years managing a wilderness lodge specializing in kayak instruction and sailing programs. Her passion for the ocean developed while growing up on fish boats and in remote areas along the B.C. coast. Robyn holds diplomas in Jazz Music and Modern Dance and has performed and travelled extensively throughout North America and Europe, central America, India and southeast Asia.
Jim Rossi
Jim has taught at Capilano University, UBC, and Clark College in Washington. His Masters degree from Oregon State University is in Biochemistry where he studied the biosynthesis of natural products from the sea. He has been a mountain biker and scuba diver since 1985. Guiding tours in the coastal mountains, shores or leading scuba divers are among his favorite activities. His course focuses on how tourism and environmental responsibility can coexist. Favorite rides are Jacoby Creek (California Redwoods - first mtn. ride), Dan's Tail - Corvallis Oregon, Switzers - San Gabriel Mtns. or anything in Halfmoon Bay BC.
Daniel Scott
"With over 10 years of experience in trails throughout North America, Daniel Scott’s background in the world of trail design is extensive.
Daniel is graduate of the University of Guelph's School of Landscape Architecture where he focused his studies on infrastructure for alternative methods of transportation and outdoor recreational landscapes. He also holds a certificate in Mountain Bike Operations from Capilano University.
When not teaching at Capilano University or Sir Sandford Fleming College, Daniel spearheads the International Mountain Bicycling Association Canada's consulting service, Trail Solutions. Within this role, Daniel divides his time between providing major land managers such as Parks Canada with staff training, designing trail systems nationwide and advocating for mountain bicycling as a valuable form of recreation.
Daniel is involved in teaching our TOUR 170 and TOUR 172 courses (Park/Trail Design and Building I and II)."
Kelli Sherbinin

A co-owner of Endless Biking (EB) , Kelli was born and raised in Nelson BC and is a fine example of the passion we ride with and teach at EB. Kelli, now living on the North Shore, has established herself as a highly respected professional instructor, racer, and mentor throughout Canada and the USA. Kelli is not only the president of operations at EB, she's also an instructor at Capilano University, teaching MTB Instruction and Guiding in several certificate programs.
Kelli's teaching resume is one of the deepest you'll find. She also instructs with: The Dirt Series, Spokeswomen, Mad March Racing (MMR), Red Bull, Capilano University and NS Ride. Kelli has developed a solid skill set and teaching style that is passionate, fundamentally sound and full of energy. Kelli's positive energy and exceptional teaching skills make her a phenomenal leader and one of EB's most sought after coaches.
Some of Kelli's highlights include a BC Cup overall series winner in Pro DH and Dual/Biker X as well as several top 4 overall positions. Highlights also include a 6th place finish at Red Bull Psychosis, 5th place showing at the first ever invitational women's freeride event, Slope Sistair. Kelli has also been featured in many movies and TV shows including: 100% Woman, Wild at Heart, The Emergence, Dirt Divas, Ride Guide TV, The Knowledge Network and Drop In TV.
Lydia Watson, BA, Cap. Dip ORM, MEd (Physical Education, UBC)

Lydia currently teaches Communications 154 and Tourism 112 in the Mountain Bike Operations Program. She has worked in outdoor education for 20 years and has been teaching post secondary for 6 years. She and her husband Gary own and operate Off the Edge Adventure Sports, the local bike shop in the heart of Sechelt.
