Dwight Gardiner, a field linguist, defended his doctoral dissertation on Secwépmc (Shuswap) syntax at SFU in 1993. He has studied Salish languages for 30 years. From 1989 to 1998, he taught in the SCES/SFU program in Kamloops, where he designed the Secwépmc language curriculum, and was also the project leader for the Kamloops Indian Band Traditional Use Study. Dwight has taught linguistics at Capilano University since 1998 and serves on the First Nations Curriculum Design Committee. In the off-season, Dwight can be found looking for something, on some dusty road, between Kamloops and Mt. Lolo.
