About Linguistics
Would you like to know six ways to say ‘we’ in Fijian, the myth of the hundred words for snow in Inuktitut, or how to make Zulu clicks? The Department of Linguistics offers a range of first-year courses including an introduction to grammatical description and practical phonetics. Second-year courses are offered with First Nations Studies and provide an introduction to the First Nations languages of BC and a course on the distribution of indigenous languages around the world. Students interested in language learning or teaching, speech pathology or cognitive science will find linguistics courses a great start.
