John Korsrud

John Korsrud

John Korsrud is a composer, trumpet player and band leader. He has written scores for several television documentary earning him Leo and Golden Sheaf Awards and Juno Nominations. He has been commissioned by The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The CBC Radio Orchestra, The Albany Symphony's New Music Festival, The Standing Wave Ensemble as well as several Dutch ensembles and Vancouver dance companies.

In 1990 John formed his 17-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra, an ensemble that has released two CDs and has toured to Europe and across Canada. As a trumpet player John has performed with George Lewis,Butch Morris, Barry Guy, Kenny Wheeler, Han Bennink, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Vancouver Ensemble of Jazz Improvisation (VEJI), New Orchestra Workshop, and Shango Ashe amongst others. John graduated from UBC in 1990 and studied composition with Louis Andriessen at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague (1995-1997). In 2001 John was awarded The Canada Council's Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for Music, Literature and the Arts.

Lisa Miller

Lisa Miller

Lisa Miller has had compositions performed by The Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Standing Wave, San Francisco's Left Coast Ensemble and Earplay. She studied composition at San Francisco State University, McGill University, and is presently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of British Columbia. She studied jazz piano in New York City with Renee Rosnes and Kenny Barron. She has performed with the NOW orchestra, and her ensembles have performed in The Vancouver Jazz Festival, at the Ford Center, The VECC and the Jazz Cellar (with members Dylan van der Schyff, Peggy Lee, Mike Allen, Dave Say, Brad Turner, Dave Robbins and Steve Smith).

Bradshaw Pack

Bradshaw Pack 

Bradshaw Pack is the recipient of numerous commissions and awards including the 2002 Joseph Stauffer Prize as awarded by the Canada Council for achievements in music. Bradshaw holds a Master of Music from the University of British Columbia and has since augmented his studies with David Lang in New York, and Kees Boeke in Italy. He has composed works for Lori Freedman, Francois Houle, Vancouver New Music, the Standing Wave Ensemble, Kate Hammet-Vaughn, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Talking Pictures, Sal Ferreras, and is currently working on pieces for the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble and the Turning Point Ensemble. Pack's CD Alogos was released by Spool Records in 2001, and was unanimously described by critics as "innovative" and "thrilling."
