Melanie FAHLMAN REID BA (UBC), MA (Toronto)

Melanie Fahlman Reid has been an instructor at Capilano since 1974. Her areas of specialization include teaching composition, the British Literature Survey, and Drama.
She has undertaken the TESL Certificate Program and enjoys teaching designated sections of first-year courses for ESL students. Melanie has worked on the TOEFL/TWE testing in Long Beach California for the Educational Testing Services group of Princeton and has presented 4 papers on teaching strategies for ESL students in academic studies at the New York, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Vancouver TOEFL conferences. She has coauthored a text on Academic Skills for EAL students with a grant from the Province of British Columbia.
Melanie has served as a Faculty representative on the Board, and as Faculty Association President from 2001-2005. She currently serves on the Faculty advisory board for computer assisted writing instruction for Pearson Education, Canada.
Theatre, opera, and community-based sports and education are included in Melanie's outside interests when she's not teaching.
