Janey Lew
Janey Lew is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Comparative Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where she most recently taught in the Asian American Studies Program before joining the Capilano English Department faculty. She is excited to return to the Vancouver area to teach at Capilano University and work on her dissertation, which compares Aboriginal and diasporic Asian cultural representations in Canada and the U.S. Janey received a BA and an MA in English from UBC before obtaining an MA in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley in 2009. Her research and teaching interests include Asian North American and indigenous literatures, postcolonial theory, rhetoric, critical race and gender studies, and cultural studies. Janey's poetry, stories and creative nonfiction have been published in RicePaper, Pagitica and Fugue. When not teaching, reading and writing, Janey can be found chasing her nieces and nephews around East Vancouver, going to movies and pursing a rotating list of nascent hobbies (which recently include yoga, knitting and pottery-on-the-wheel).
