Andrea WESTCOTT
Andrea WESTCOTT, BA (Alberta), MA (Queens), PhD (Toronto)

Andrea received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta in Honours English and her MA from Queen's in Kingston, ON. Her MA thesis compared Carlyle to Disraeli. Andrea's PhD, granted from the University of Toronto, is entitled "The Art of Anne Bronte." Her teaching career began in the English Department at University of British Columbia, with first-to-fourth-year courses. Since then, Andrea has been teaching first and second-year university transfer courses in the Capilano University English Department, including several years as the Department's coordinator. Andrea also researches and writes about women writers from the Victorian period through to the present.
In addition to English 100 (which all instructors teach!), Andrea enjoys teaching the 20th and 21st century all genre first-year literature course (ENGL 103), and the fiction course covering the same period (ENGL 104). She also teaches a course for the Women Studies department in 20th and 21st century women’s fiction (WMST 104). For second-year courses, she has specialized in the two halves of the critical survey of British literature (200, 201) and the recently created children's literature (218).
When not teaching, Andrea can be found skiing the back bowls of Whistler with her husband and two children; the summer months often find her challenging the road up to Cypress on her bike or running the seawall.
