About English

First and second-year English studies at Capilano University offer small, discussion-oriented classes where students develop their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills.

Students are encouraged to take first-year composition -- English 100 -- in order to acquire academic writing skills that will assist them in all their university course work.

Discussion-oriented literature classes encourage students to think critically about English literature written in traditional and experimental modes, in a variety of genres, and in the context of contemporary issues.

First-year literature courses cover fiction, poetry, drama, film, and new media.

Second-year literature courses cover a wide variety of perspectives on literature.
