Degree Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for this program have been revised and are effective for applications for September 2012 onwards.

Application Direct from High School OR No Relevant Post-Secondary Education

  • BC Secondary School Graduation (Grade 12) OR equivalent OR Mature Student Status
  • A minimum grade point average of 2.0 (60%) calculated on English 12 or English 12 First Peoples and three academic Grade 12 courses
  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview
  • Submission of:
    • Resume
    • Three letters of reference (two professional, one character)
    • Letter of Interest/Intent (maximum 500 words)

Application with some ECCE Courses (Capilano or Transfer) OR with ECCE License(s) to Practice Issued from the ECCE Registry OR I Have Relevent University Courses

Students with ECCE Credits:

  • ECCE Credits from Capilano University, a transferable institution, or eligible for advance standing with ECE license(s) to practice
  • Minimum cumulative GPA 2.0 in ECCE training
  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview
  • Submission of:
    • Resume
    • Three letters of reference (two professional, one character)
    • Letter of interest/intent (max. 500 words)
    • Copy of all ECCE Licences to practice that have been granted (ECE, IT, and/or SN)

Students with University Credits:

  • Relevant university credits from a transferable institution
  • Minimal cumulative GPA 2.0
  • English 12 or Englilsh 12 First Peoples
  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview
  • Submission of:
    • Resume
    • Three letters of reference (two professional, one character)
    • Letter of interest/intent (max. 500 words)
    • Copy of all ECCE Licences to practice that have been granted (ECE, IT, and/or SN)

Guidelines for Letter of Interest/Intent

1st Year Applicants
We are interested in hearing about the curiosities, interests, and experiences that currently shape your thinking regarding early childhood education.

2nd & 3rd Year Applicants
We are interested in hearing about:
a) The philosophies that currently shape your practice
b) Your professional curiosities, questions, and inquiries that may guide your research and learning.

Continuation in the Program

Continuation in each term of the programs is dependent upon the demonstration of satisfactory interpersonal, academic, and teaching/guiding skills.  C- is the minimum acceptable grade in all courses within the Diploma and Certificates.  2.67 is the minimum cumulative GPA acceptable for continuation in the Degree.

Laddering from Diploma to Degree

All students in the Diploma program at Capilano University are required to take 52.5 credits of 100, 200, and directed 300 level ECCE courses. A student in the Diploma program may choose to apply to the Degree program and all of the Capilano University ECCE courses taken as part of the Diploma will be applied towards their ECCE degree.
