topAbout Course Registration
First-Year Assured Seats
Course registration is highly competitive.
Each calendar year, the first 52 students accepted to the first-year of the ECCE programs will be allocated 'Assured Seats' in their first-year courses for the Fall term and the following spring term; i.e. students accepted in 2012 will have Assured Seats in Fall 2012 & Spring 2013.
Although seats will be 'Assured', these first 52 students accepted to the first-year of ECCE programs are still required to register online via the Capilano University website for their courses.
When online registration opens, there will be a short period of time reserved for registration into these assured seats. After this period of reserved registration (approximately 48 hours), registration will open to all Capilano University students to register and waitlist for ECCE courses.
Assured Seats will be granted for either day or evening classes. This is why you were asked to indicate your preference for day or evening on the Confirmation of Acceptance form sent to you previously.
Assured Seats will be given on a first come, first-served basis using the date that the deposit is paid as instructed on the Confirmation of Acceptance form.
After your deposit is received, you will receive a letter from the ECCE department informing you of any Assured Seat allocated to you along with important information on registration. If you do not get an Assured Seat or do not get your preference for day or evening, this does not mean you have lost your opportunity to register for your chosen courses: after the period of reserved registration, it will open to all Capilano University students to register and waitlist for ECCE courses.
Priority Registration
First-year students: please see First-Year Assured Seats above. After the Fall & Spring terms of your first year, GPA will be used to determine priority for registration.
For all students that are not first-year students (including upper level, returning, and transfer students): your GPA will be used to determine priority for registration.
Pleast direct any questions regarding your acceptance in the program to Yvonne French, Departmental Assistant, at 604.986.1911 extension 2211.

topWinged Bear Spotted on Campus
By Shannon Colin / September 1, 2011
You may have noticed a new presence on campus. He has big teeth, fur and white wings. You'll find him on the t-shirt to be worn by volunteers and student leaders at New Student Orientation. He's not a new Cap mascot. He's a playful take on Caps new Coat of Arms, which includes two winged bears.
As described in the Coat of Arms information: Bears are a local creature. In local First Nations mythology, bears are symbols of strength and are a link between the natural and supernatural realms. In medieval bestiaries, bears were said to give shape to their own young, and therefore bears can represent the forming of the young, a metaphor for education. The wings refer to the idea of aspiration and can allude to ravens, another local creature immortalized in First Nations mythology and associated with intelligence and creativity.
We hope you like our new furry friend!
Online Survey - Access to Courses
As a result of the demand for part-time courses in the Fall 2011 term, we would like to find out how we can support students to access courses that they want in an equitable way. We would greatly appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to complete this online survey so that we can use your opinions to assist in decision-making for future terms.

IMPORTANT: All students who are planning to register for any practicum course (Basic or Post Basic) are required to have a valid criminal record check (CRC) completed through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General prior to starting practicum. Instructions may be found on Practicum and Criminal Record Check. Please note that if you do not have a valid CRC you will not be able to start your practicum.

Additional Documentation Required for Practicum
At any time after acceptance to the program, students may be required to submit additional documentation (for example: criminal record check, medical exam, first aid certificate) as required by relevant health and ECE Registry authorities. Some of these items will be required before students are eligible to take courses required for program completion. Students will be notified of requirements as they become necessary.
For all Practicum Courses in Spring 2012, you will be required to have on file with the ECCE Department:
- Current criminal record check
- Medical form to be completed and submitted by physician (see medical form)
- Valid first aid certificate
Please ensure all of these items are submitted before the start of term for you to be eligible to go on practicum and complete the course.

Potential ECCE Graduates for Spring 2012 Convocation
Students planning to graduate in Spring 2012 should apply online for graduation assessment (it's free) NOW to avoid late charges.
Also, for students who are currently or have previously taken courses elsewhere but not yet ordered their official transcripts for submission to the Registrar's Office, please order them now, even if it is for the current term. This expedites the transfer credit evaluation process which may be necessary to determine eligibility for Spring 2012 convocation.
