Special Needs Certificate

The Special Needs Certificate provides students with the advanced skills and knowledge to work with children who require extra support in licensed preschools and centres.

When and where are courses offered?

The North Vancouver campus offers a part-time option for completing the Special Needs Certificate courses. 

Students should be aware that the program includes two three-week (or one six-week) practicum placements during daytime hours.

This program is two terms (Full-time equivalency).

What credentials will I gain?

Upon successful completion, students are awarded a Special Needs Certificate. The Special Needs Certificate enables students to register as a Special Needs Educator in British Columbia by applying to the Manager of Early Childhood Programs at the  Community Care Licensing Branch.

What are the admission requirements?

Students wishing to enrol in courses leading to a Basic ECCE Certificate must apply to either the Diploma or Degree streams. Applicants should review the admission requirements for their chosen stream:  Diploma stream admission requirements or Degree stream admission requirements.  Please note: students can exit with the Special Needs Certificate without completing other courses in the Degree / Diploma streams.
