Children Teaching Us
Children Teaching Us (or CTU) is an opportunity for students to work alongside and learn from children. In these encounters with children, students are encouraged to take time to listen, attend to, and learn from the children’s intentions, understandings, meanings and perspectives. It is an integral part of our curriculum courses. This may involve students working with the educators and children at the Capilano University Children’s Centre, or may involve working with children from the community in our Saturday Children’s Studio Workshop sessions. Through CTU we aim to create spaces where listening and close attention to children, their hundred languages and modes of expression and meaning making are possible. It supports an image of teaching that depends not on plans and procedures, rather on responsiveness, receptivity, and openness to the unthought and unknown.
