Courses
Commerce Courses:
For the list of Year I Arts & Sciences (Pre-Commerce) courses, and Year II Commerce courses, see the Commerce Courses in the online Calendar. Required first year courses are listed below. Check our web pages for Year II for an updated listing of Year II courses.
Year I (Pre-Commerce Year):
Students who are aiming for the Commerce Program with an eventual goal of going to UBC for a B.Comm degree should apply for the Arts & Sciences program for Year I, their Pre-Commerce year. There is no need to apply to the Commerce Program until Year II. Year I core courses are ECON 111, ECON 112, ENGL 100 (with a minimum grade of C), and MATH 108, plus six electives (these should not include Business or Statistics courses). You must obtain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, and a GPA of 2.5 for your 4 core courses. However, as preference is given to students with the best Year I records, a GPA of 3.0 or better is usually required.
Year II:
In order to enter the 2nd year, students must complete two applications. In addition to their application to Capilano University for Admission/Readmission, students must formally apply and be admitted to the Commerce Program itself. The official deadline is April 15th; however, since spaces can open up even as late as August, applications are usually accepted until then. See our web pages for Year II for the list of required 2nd year courses.
