Summer Animation Programs

Next Session Starts July 2012

The Animation Department at Capilano University is proud to offer the 2012 Animation Fundamentals and Computer Animation summer institutes. These full-time summer programs will provide you with a broad foundation of animation skills.

Animation Fundamentals is designed for individuals who are seeking a career in the animation industry and would like to further develop their artistic skills and portfolio prior to entering the full time Digital Animation or Commercial Animation programs.

Computer Animation and Visual Effects is designed for individuals who have an interest in computer animation and visual effects and are seeking to further develop their portfolio prior to entering the full time Digital Animation or Digital Visual Effects programs.

Animation Fundamentals

This program will introduce the process for creating traditional and computer animation. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and practice animation techniques through hands-on exercises. The following topic areas will be covered:

Drawing for Animation

Gesture Drawing, Anatomy Basics, Cleanup and Inbetweening

Design

Character Design, Layout Design, Perspective Basics, Animation Posing

Animation Principles and Timing

Principles of Animation, Timing, Animating to Dialogue, Character Animation

Digital Animation

Introduction to creating Computer Animation using Adobe Flash software

Computer Animation and Visual Effects

This program will introduce the process for creating 3D computer graphics and animation. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and practice Computer Animation, Modeling, Texturing and Sculpture techniques through hands-on exercises. The following topic areas will be covered:

Computer Animation Basics

Principles of Character Animation and Timing, Visual Effects and Particle Systems.

Modeling and Texturing

Character and Prop Design, Modeling and Texturing for Games, Television and Film.

Design and Sculpture

Character Design, Sculpture and Posing.

Maximum number of Students: 18
Program Length: 8 Weeks
