General Information
The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program enables you to work towards your Grade 12 equivalency or to prepare for entry into programs at post-secondary institutions. It can also be used to improve general skills for writing, math and use of computers.
The program offers individualized instruction in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computers. Students select subjects depending upon their educational, occupational and personal goals.
Classes are offered Monday through Friday during the fall and spring terms.
Take the summer on at Capilano!
A reduced schedule of classes is also offered during the first summer term (May & June). Please check the online summer class schedule at Course Schedule & Fees Search once it is available. Courses are subject to change.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted you should be at least 18 years old and have been out of the public school system for a minimum of one year. Exceptions will only be made with departmental approval.
topRegistration
Students may apply to the university online or in person; registration into ABE courses however, can only be done in person.
Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, however returning ABE students register prior to new students. New students should contact the university to complete an assessment/questionnaire and receive a registration priority number before the registration date. Fee payment or a letter of intent from a sponsoring agency must accompany registration forms to complete the registration process for sponsored students.
Students may start most ABE courses at any time, provided there are seats available.
There are no tuition fees for ABE courses. NOTE: To simplify fees for students, the University has decided to eliminate the Photo ID fee. This fee is paid annually by students. To compensate for the loss of the Photo ID fee and to bring us inline with similar post secondary institutions, the effective April 1, 2010 application fees will be:
Domestic Application Fee: $42
International Application Fee: $128
The University will require the fee be paid before processing an application.
Returning students who have not taken a break of one semester or more from their studies pay only a $24 registration term fee.
