ABE Certificates and Diploma
The ABE department offers courses and programs at four levels: provincial, advanced, intermediate and fundamental.
The provincial diploma is issued by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training. It enables adults to achieve a Grade 12 standing that will provide access to post-secondary institutions in B.C.
Intermediate and advanced certificates are issued by Capilano University and provide prerequisites for career and vocational programs throughout the province.
Fundamental level instruction provides basic reading and writing skills and basic mathematics skills.
ABE certificates also satisfy most employers' requirements. Certain high school courses may qualify as transfer credit toward ABE certificates and the provincial diploma. In addition, first-year level college/university courses or other credit courses or programs from Capilano University or other post-secondary institutions may also qualify as credit towards the provincial diploma. Students may take university transfer courses while enrolled in the ABE program.
Please note: Certificates are not issued automatically. Students who have completed the requirements for a particular certificate must apply for it in writing. Forms are available from the Squamish campus.
