Laverne THOMPSON, M. Ed (Lesley University, Cambridge, MA) has been part of the AWE faculty team since 1992. In AWE she uses a wide range of strategies to assist students in developing an awareness of their strengths and limitations, and on the need for individuals to develop strategies for problem solving. Laverne has also worked from 1991-2005 with the Douglas College Therapeutic Recreation Department. Laverne has been an active member of the executive of the Disability Resource Network of BC and has chaired the Provincial Articulation committee. Priscilla STANBURY, BA (UBC), Cert. of Ed. (London) RSA Literacy Cert. (London), has been teaching at Capilano University since 1994. She has had over 27 years experience teaching adults with physical and learning disabilities and barriers to employment in both England and Canada. While at Capilano University, Priscilla has taught in the Access Work Experience Department, the Applied Business Department, and Continuing Education. Her other work experience includes teaching in the Adult Basic Education Department at Vancouver Community College, the Community Support Workers Program at Kwantlen College and with the Vancouver School Board.
In addition to her instructional duties Priscilla has chaired the College Faculty Development Committee, assisted with the Adult Special Education Department Coordination, managed government funded projects and been a member of CCFA committees. She is actively involved with community organizations such as the Arthritis Society, Kidney Foundation of Canada and a board member of the Scelroderma Society of BC.
Priscilla taught at Greenwich Community College in London, England for 17 years. She was responsible for coordinating a two-year funded joint Social Services and Adult Special Education project to develop Literacy assessment materials. Community Service agencies and Adult Education Authorities throughout the UK use the materials developed.

Kathy MOSCRIP, B.A. (Developmental Psychology) (UBC), has been working with adults with learning difficulties since 1981. After completing her degree at UBC in developmental psychology, she began work at the first 'supported work model' in BC, a furniture manufacturing plant, where people with disabilities were paid real wages for real work. There began her passion for access to education and employment for people with disabilities, becoming the first provincial coordinator for National Access Awareness Week and the work experience coordinator for a non profit training centre. New opportunities opened up for Kathy when she began teaching in community colleges in 1985.
Kathy has taught at Kwantlen University College and Vancouver Community College and is now very happy to be at Capilano Unviersity.
