Seminar to focus on fisheries management

(NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C.)—A free seminar at Capilano College will confront some of the major topics in current and future B.C. salmon fisheries management. The event runs on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. in the Cedar building, room 148. A representative panel of four experts in management design, wild stock modeling and estimation, fisheries economics, and finfish aquaculture will each deliver interactive lectures on trends and challenges facing salmon fisheries in their respective fields.

The four panel speakers are: Andrew Thomson, senior aquaculture officer – Department of Fisheries and Oceans; Wayne Saito, Canadian chair, Fraser River Panel – DFO; Dr. Sean Cox, Northern Coho Modeler – Simon Fraser University, Resource and Environmental Management department; and, Dr. Rashid Sumaila, fisheries economist – University of British Columbia Fisheries Centre.
