Chancellor

Biography of Chancellor Peter Ufford

Over a long and successful career, Peter Ufford has held a number of key leadership positions in British Columbia. He is a current member of the Canadian Olympic committee and its Audit committee, and is a director of Wall Financial Corp, the Terminal City Club, the Rick Hansen Foundation, and numerous other organizations. He is a past director of the Vancouver Olympic Bid Corporation, the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy and the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame, and is a founding director of Quest University.

From 2000 to 2008, Peter was president of the Sea to Sky Foundation, working to establish the campus of Quest University Canada in Squamish. From 1988 to 1999, he was the vice-president of external affairs and business relations at the University of British Columbia, and from 1977 to 1987, he worked as a management and fundraising consultant to the Vancouver Aquarium and the United Way of Canada, among others.

In January 2003, Peter was awarded a Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He has also been recognized as a leader in philanthropy by the Governor General of Canada and the BC Association of Fund Raising Professionals.

Today, in semi-retirement, Peter and his wife Theresa operate their own family holding company and he continues to be active through community volunteer activities. They have four adult children, one who is currently attending Capilano University.

Role of Chancellor

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university and is appointed by and is a member of the Board of Governors. He is also a member of the University’s Senate and presides at convocation and confers all credentials. The Chancellor will also be called upon to represent the institution at major events both on and off campus. The position of Chancellor is voluntary and runs for three years.
