Jackie’s early years were spent living on a dairy farm in Southern Iowa. While in the United States, Jackie initially studied journalism and spent two years as an assistant editor with a community newspaper. She then spent the next three years in North Carolina as a supply sergeant in a parachute shop for the 82nd Airborne Division, the largest airborne division in the United States Army. After moving to Canada in 1981, Jackie continued her education at the University of British Columbia.

Her academic career began at the University College of the Fraser Valley (now University of the Fraser Valley) where she worked as a Psychology instructor before becoming department head. Just prior to coming to Capilano, Jackie worked at UCFV as Dean of Science, Health and Human Services. She joined Capilano in 2007 as Vice-President Education, Academic and Arts Programs.

Jackie says she works at Capilano University because: “I love the energy that comes from the mix of programs and the passion of instructors.”

She is a former Board member of the Ann Davis Transition Society – a safe haven for abused women in Chilliwack. In addition to her work experience, Jackie also volunteers with the Canadian Cancer Society’s Connection program.

Jackie holds a PhD in Psychology (University of British Columbia), a Master of Arts, Psychology (UBC), a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology (North Carolina State University) and a Certificate in Higher Education Administration (Bryn Mawr College).

She currently lives in North Vancouver where she enjoys rock climbing, hiking and cycling. Her secret ambition is to play in a band.
