Use this procedure to create a Flickrcontent page that will pull images and other content from a Flickr account. You must have a Flickr login and an API key in order for this feature to work correctly. See the Flickr content pages overview for more information on what you need before getting started.
Create the page. If you do not know how to start a new page, see First steps in creating pages.
In the Introduction editor window, enter the content you wish to display above the images that will be displayed from Flickr.
Complete the Page Properties section.
The Page Properties section allows you to control how the images will be displayed on your published Flickr Content page.
Display
Images: You can choose whether you want the Flickr images displayed
horizontally, vertically or in a grid (horizontally and vertically in
rows and columns).
The Images Visible field located
below this setting allows you to specify the number of images to display
at one time.
Enable
Slideshow: Select this option if you wish to allow those viewing
the photos to view them in a slideshow format. Once you enable this option,
the system displays additional settings for you to make:
Show Controls: Check this option to display the slideshow
controls so that the user can control how they view the photos/slideshow.
Interval: This is the time between images while the slideshow
is running. The default value is 5 seconds between slides. The Fade interval
is 2 seconds.
Effect: This controls how the transition from image to image
is accomplished (e.g. fade out of image, or slide in from the side of
the screen, etc.)
Preview Size: Select the size you want the images to be when they are displayed on the published page.
Show Tags in View Mode: Select this option if you want your published Flickr Content page to display the Flickr tags associated with the images. These tags allows users to search for similar photos on Flickr.
Open Flickr Images in New Window: Select this option if you want the images to be opened in a new browser window instead of being displayed within the current browser window. This option is unselected by default.
Image
selection mode: There are two options for choosing the images that
will be displayed on your ACM page. You can select individual, specific
images, or you can set the system to simply load all images from Flickr
based on search criteria you specify.
Choose Images Below: This option allows you to select specific
images from Flickr to display on your Flickr Content page. When you select
this option, an Images section
is displayed just below the Flickr
Criteria section of the page editor. You can add individual
images in the Images section.
Always load from Flickr: This setting dynamically loads
images from Flickr based on your search criteria. Each time a visitor
to site displays the flickr Content page, the search is run and new images
loaded from Flickr according to the search criteria entered on the Flickr
Content page.
Complete the Flickr Criteria section.
The Flickr Criteria section allows you to specify the Flickr account particulars and criteria for selecting images to be displayed on your page.
API Key: You must generate an API Key through your Flickr account and then type the API Key in this field. If you have not created an API key, see Creating a Flickr API key. If you already have the key, enter it in this field.
Secret Key: When you created an API Key in Flickr, a Shared Secret key was also automatically created. It is similar to the API key in appearance but much shorter. Enter the Shared Secret key in this field. See Creating a Flickr API key for more information.
Group Name: The Group Name refers to a Flickr group whose images are to be displayed in view mode on your ACM Flickrcontent page.
Images Uploaded By: You can specify that you only want to display images uploaded by certain individuals. Enter the Flickr user name of a single user or multiple users (separated by commas) who have uploaded images to Flickr. The names serve as a type of search filter when locating images on Flickr.
Tags:
Enter one or more tags (separated by commas) that will be used as a search
filter when locating photos on Flickr to display on your Flickrcontent
page.
Note that you must enter at least one of the Group Name, Images
Uploaded By or Tags field. You cannot leave all three fields blank or
you will not retrieve any photos.
Maximum Images to Return: Enter the maximum number of images you wish to pull from Flickr. The default and maximum is 30.
Click Save.
Now that you have entered the API and Secret keys, you must authenticate them. Click the Authenticate link located under the Secret Key field. This will take you to the Flickr Authentication screen where you will need to click an OK button to complete the authentication. Once this is complete, the date and time of the authentication will be displayed beside the link.
If you selected the Choose Images Below option in
Page Properties section, the IMAGES
section will be displayed. If you selected the Always
Load from Flickr option in the Page Properties, the Images
section will not appear.
If you selected Choose Images Below, you must now click Search in the Flickr Criteria section.
This will begin the search of Flickr images based on the criteria you
have entered. Note that you must have already Authenticated your API key
account (see the previous step).
Once the search is complete, the retrieved photos are displayed in
the Images section of the page.
You can then select individual photos to display or click the
beside the word Select
to select/deselect all images. These images will continue to be the ones
displayed until you re-run the search to select an updated batch of photos.
In the Conclusion editor window, enter the content you wish to display below the images. This might be a thank you message or other information related to the photo display, etc.
Click Save and submit the page for publication.
